Sans
Sans Serif, literally "without serifs", denotes a style where the terminals of the letters have no spurs (serifs). Most used for bodytext.

Serif
Styles containing flares at the end of a letter terminal, e.g. Garamond, Times etc.

Slab Serif
Chunkier, square serifs, e.g. Rockwell, Clarendon etc.

Script - Formal  
Decorative, ornate scripts.

Script - Casual
Informal cursives, occasionally more calligraphic or handwritten in appearance. Check out Olicana or Gizmo from G-Type.

Handwriting

Corporate
